SCENE: Sen. Steve Daines is rushing through the basement of the US Capitol when Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo greets him and then starts walking in stride with him until the senator reaches the Senators Only elevator bank.
Matt Laslo: “How are you, sir?”
Steve Daines: “Good. How are you?”
ML: “Livin the dream.”
SD: “Are ya? I got a dream for ya…”
Laslo laughs.
ML: “Have you had any conversations about SAFER Banking [Act]?”
SD: “I have not.”
ML: “Over on the House side I don’t think the Cannabis Caucus has even met yet.”
ICYMI — Last we checked…
Laslo laughs.
SD: “Oh really? So...”
ML: “I was wondering if…”
SD: “So, so [freshman Sen.] Bernie Moreno (R-OH) — cause I’m no longer on the Banking Committee.”
ML: “Oh really?”
SD: “So, I went to Foreign Relations [Committee]. So, it’s a Banking Committee jurisdiction...”
ML: “Has Moreno taken over?”
SD: “Moreno’s gonna take that.”
ML: “Oh cool. I’ll talk to him about it.”
SD: “Just so you know, FYI.”
ML: “I won’t have to bother you about it anymore!”
Laslo laughs.
SD: “Oh, I’m okay…”
Daines and his aide enter a Senators Only elevator.
ML: “Have a good one, sir.”
